CWIT was founded in 1981 by tradeswomen whose desire to build their own careers in the construction industry evolved into a collective mission to ensure that all women who wanted to work with their hands and earn a good living had equal access to information, training, and employment opportunities in the industry.  Learn more.

CWIT continues to be led by tradeswomen, who comprise the majority of members on our Board of Directors.   As former program participants, tradeswomen, industry representatives, and professionals, we benefit from their vision, experience, talents and passionate commitment to women’s equity in the nontraditional workplace.  Meet our board.

Our staff are committed to eliminating occupational segregation and barriers that prevent women from building careers in the trades and other nontraditional occupations.   They provide career education, training, support and job placement assistance to aspiring and existing tradeswomen, provide technical assistance to apprenticeship programs and other industry stakeholders to build their capacity to recruit and retain women, and advocate for policies and practices that support tradeswomen’s careers.  See a complete staff list.
